There have been many different reviews on the latest album from the Toronto based electro duo MSTRKRFT. Billboard said “The combination of old-school melody and post-mod dissonance is risky, bold, and one of the most exciting releases of the year so far.”, while PopMatters was less impressed saying “In a genre filled with faceless artists, MSTRKRFT only manage to stand out by being exceptionally faceless.” While RollingStone met them in the middle comically saying “MSTRKRFT keep things bouncing, but they never match Daft Punk or Justice on the hook or cleverness quotient. They’re like those drunk, loud dudes at a party: They’re having a good time, but you might not be.” – One thing that I enjoyed out of this album is the remixes that have been and continue to surface, the latest being Laidback Luke’s offering on Heartbreaker. It’s not 320kbps, ill update it as soon as I find it.

Well the show was not bad at all!! Part of the83s.com attended MSTRKRFT’s most recent gig in beautiful Montreal on Saturday and enjoyed the evening. The sound quality was great, as per usual thanks to the Metropolis amphitheater, the lighting effects were cool but the lateness at which MSTRKRFT went on stage was not über nice. They went on at 1:30AM…wtf!? Seriously…I’m getting too old for this stuff…I can’t be standing around and dancing for 4 hours PRIOR to the main event…and I don’t think it was only me and my “older and somewhat sober” crew…the kids around us, a vast majority who were stoned out of their minds thanks to an abuse of pills, were just sitting down in the staircases and passing out…The DJs leading in to the main event were pretty good overall, with the last one being of a very similar style to Cherry Cola, with just less intensity.
The featured song today is nothing new but it’s still one of the most badass beat drops in the world. M’as-tu vu!? Non mais je t’ai entendu!!
We all know who mstrkrft is so I’m going to move right along to the guys who scored the official remix of the track “Bounce”. Mansion is a new and upcoming production team from Toronto. They took “bounce” and added they’re own house flavor to it by jamming it full of organ, piano chords and pumping groves. Check it out !
