Happy New Year to everyone!!

Friday, January 1st, 2010

Here we go again for another great year here on the83s.com. We certainly hope you enjoyed 2009 and the contributions we did to the blog. We will again keep you guys updated with the big events of Montreal and some brand new music of high quality. On the topic…here is a brand new song…not of high quality musically…but certainly entertaining visually.

Sleeping at the wheel

Thursday, August 6th, 2009

Yes…it’s summertime…hence why I was a bit slow to post those next two songs. Alex Metric has been on a tear in Europe, especially in his native UK, where he is combining lots of different styles to create som every cool remixes. This remix of “One More Chance” by Bloc Party is a total summer banger. Who knows…you might end up drunk and lying close to these girls with this kind of beat blasting in your car.

Neil Armstrong is alive and kicking!

Neil_Podcast_Header

We dabble mostly in electronic music lately but we’ve always been hip-hop fans here at the83s. You can count on us to keep you posted on the coolio and illy things happening in that art of the musical game. My man DJ Neil Armstrong (Jay-Z’s latest tour DJ) decided to use the 40th anniversary of the Lunar landing to launch is own podcast. You can register via iTunes to stay hooked up with the best mixtapes in the world. Neil has always been deeply inspired by old school soul and hip hop beats. They make for very unique and orignal mixtapes that we suggest you download and, hopefully, purchase his mixtapes here to support him…it’s simply the perfect pre-party music with a good bunch of friends. Check it out.

In the mean time, two unreleased mixes from Neil:

This is a live mix of Neil and fellow 5th Platoon Member DJ Daddy Dog on Half Time Radio back in 2006.

And a shorty but oh so goody “Dear Summer” mixtape

United Nations delivered a hit!!!

Tuesday, June 16th, 2009

Oh today is a good day. You know a song is gonna kick some serious ass when N.A.S.A. does it, Lykke Li, Santigold and Kanye West are featured, and the whole thing is remixed by Treasure Fingers. Yes, you read that correctly. That’s a United Nations coordinated effort to create some serious beats.

Enjoy!!

Smooth Summer Mixtape

Sunday, May 17th, 2009

We’ve been talking about doing this for a quite some time now. We at the83s.com are big fans of all the classics from the 80’s, 90’s and today. Of course we prefer new school electronic music. But let’s put that aside for a second. Did you ever stop and think about what our parents listened too in the past ? Well it turns out that it was some of the best musical arrangements and most of these still live today. In tribute to DJ Low Bee’s smooth holiday mixtape (which is pretty much the mix of the year) we put together this gem of a mix. Most definitely baby making music !!! Download and make love to this people !

Pilooski again!!

Wednesday, April 29th, 2009

Well our man Pilooski once again delivers a SOLID old-school track remix. This guy is on fire…everything he touches turns into a cool song…and it’s very hard to make a cool song. This re-edit of “Craw Fish” by Elvis Presley is one of them. Check it out.

Best mixtape of 2008?

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

After careful debating and some drinking, I think we’ve come down to this decision: DJ Low Bee’s “Smooth Holiday” is the most amazing mixtape to have come out in 2008. Yes it’s mid-March already, but for some reason (maybe lazyness, maybe because we were busy and just maybe because we never thought of doing an official “Best of” post this year), this week-end we pretty much established it was the best. For the younger kids out there (under 18), you might not enjoy this as much as we do, but this is CLASSIC music, all bundled together for your earing pleasure. It’s baby-making music at its finest. Proof: there are TWO…that’s two times…twice…Michael McDonald hits on this mixtape. We discovered it on one of our favorite blogs, fluo kids. Go visit them, they have exquisite taste. Enjoy carefully people.

Escape

Tuesday, February 10th, 2009

So as the regulars of the 83s.com probably know by now, I’m in Florida for a much needed vacation, to relax, soak up the sun and run a half-marathon. (done already, went very well, my best time so far and I can still walk today !!) After hearing about the fridgid temperatures (for Florida anyways), I was a bit bummed… but then I got here, the sun came out, I’m walking in flip flops, getting a tan and having drinks every evening in very good company. We got carried away last night, and this sont came on at one point. It feels like summer in an igloo when this song comes on so I figured I might share my good moment with the world. Enjoy people, and make love, not war.

Escape (The Pina Colada Song) – Rupert Holmes

God, Guns & Money

Saturday, February 7th, 2009

Ever sit there and wonder ?….. -- Wonder what life would be like if you were cocaine dealer living in Miami during the early 80’s ? Well, I do all the time ! Now that my partner is in Florida for a week I wanted to put myself in the mood. This track makes me feel like I’m in a movie, baggin’ keys of coke, filling small apartments with money to the ceiling, driving fancy cars on Ocean Drive and living the high life !

Someone Else’s Ride -- Ghosthustler

-- NEW THIS WEEK --

we finally got our promotional business cards !! Check ‘em out ! If you get your hands on one of these, you’re cool.

And for some odd reason today, this song came up… I still don’t know why, but what a banger !
